The Girls' Day Academy

On March 12, 2025, seven schoolgirls were guests at the DRÄXLMAIER training center in Vilsbiburg. The girls are pupils at the Ursulinen Realschule in Landshut. There they attend the elective “Girls' Day Academy” every Wednesday afternoon.
"The Ursulinen Realschule, an all-girls school, created the elective subject to introduce the students to STEM professions - math, IT, science and technology - and to motivate them to choose a career in these areas. Company tours, such as the one at DRÄXLMAIER, are firmly integrated into the subject," explains Matthias Guth, teacher at the Ursulinen Realschule.
The DRÄXLMAIER apprentices and trainer Eugen Blust showed the girls every step of the process and supported them with questions on the way to the finished product.
During their visit to DRÄXLMAIER, the girls learned about working with leather and created a mouse pad over the course of the afternoon using the processing techniques of punching, gluing with dispersion adhesive and laminating the leather with a hot air dryer. Finally, the girls were given a tour of the training workshop to introduce them to all the technical apprenticeships.
