Simon

Site Infrastructure Management at DRÄXLMAIER in Landau

For Simon, sustainability is part of his job as well as his leisure time: He is responsible for efficient and sustainable energy management at the Landau site and is also privately involved, for example, in the volunteer fire department.

What role does sustainability play in your job?

Since my training as a maintenance technician in electrical engineering, I have been walking through production with open eyes to ensure that, for example, operating materials are saved or reused. Utilizing resources optimally and avoiding waste is part of my daily work, so I have a very trained eye.

It’s about keeping production running at the lowest possible cost. This promotes thinking in terms of sustainability. After further training to become a master craftsman, my work in international operating materials procurement at DRÄXLMAIER in China sharpened my awareness even more.

Recently, I took on a new role in energy management at the Landau site. We measure and analyze energy consumption, for example in building technology, to ensure the most sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient supply possible. Digitalization helps us with this, and I greatly enjoy driving the application of these intelligent tools.

As a project manager for construction and industrialisation projects, sustainability also plays a central role in my work. As well as meeting deadlines and achieving milestones, I focus on planning renovation measures that are flexible, long-lasting and suitable for future projects, ideally without requiring significant new investments. To me, sustainability means taking a holistic approach to technical and organisational solutions that are efficient, cost-effective and sustainable in the long term, and that always consider people, the environment and the location.

Do you also strive for a sustainable lifestyle in your everyday life?

I have grown with my tasks, and since I started building my house, I have focused not only on regionality and seasonality but also on high quality that endures. Unfortunately, this aspect is often neglected because it is often associated with higher costs. In the short to medium term, this may not be the best economic decision, but in the long term, it is usually the more sustainable choice.

Do you have any practical tips and tricks for more sustainability in everyday life?

Consuming mindfully and consciously is a good start. If you pay attention to what you buy and how you use it, sustainability often comes naturally.
