Sunil, Solution expert and IT architect in Munich, Germany has been working at DRÄXLMAIER since 2021
Sportsman and explorer
Thursday, August 5, 2021: Germany and India, the two biggest field hockey nations in the world, face off at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. A dramatic battle for the bronze medal, which India narrowly wins 5:4. “What a great game and experience! The best part was celebrating with my new colleagues in Germany. Even though there could only be one winner, sports bring people together across borders. Which is just great,” says Sunil.
At the time, the SAP specialist had only just arrived in Munich. When Sunil joined DRÄXLMAIER at the beginning of 2021 at its IT location in Munich, in-person meetings with others were still limited due to COVID. Instead, there were lots of video calls and working from home. “In the summer, when the situation had eased, we were able to enjoy the Olympic get-togethers with friends and colleagues,” Sunil recalls. For the “small” field hockey final, he’d brought sweets from his home city of New Delhi. “Since then, we’ve grown together as a motley family!”
A true cosmopolitan
Sunil has been around the world a lot in his life. He’s a true cosmopolitan – and a bright mind. The engineer has an MBA in Marketing and Finance and is passionate about digitizing and optimizing processes. Harnessing the power of the SAP world and creating interfaces between production, procurement and customers has taken him halfway around the world. For a long time, Sunil worked as an SAP expert for a consulting company in the UK and, most recently, in Vienna, Austria.
“My work there was challenging and exciting. But because consulting is all about quick wins and short-term changes, the human element is often missing,” Sunil notes. When he first heard about DRÄXLMAIER during a client meeting, he was intrigued. “A family-owned company that’s clear about its values with a global network that sees the bigger picture when it comes to digital transformation? This was much more in line with what I had in mind.”
„Connection creates intelligence“
Sunil is a friendly and humorous family man. “I like to communicate, exchange ideas and learn about cultures and ways of thinking,” he says. And that's what he really appreciates about his current job: it gives him plenty of opportunities to do so. After all, he works with a team of 60 high-caliber professionals from around the world. “There are many business units involved in system architecture and everyone wants to be understood and heard before they change anything. Which is why to understand how things work in a world that’s changing faster and faster, we have to talk to each other a lot.” He sees DRÄXLMAIER’s motto for its digital transformation – “connection creates intelligence” – as both a challenge and a commitment for himself.
Making his home in Munich
There’s no need to worry about Sunil digitizing the real world, though. “I love being outdoors and enthusiastically exploring my surroundings,” he says. Colleagues recently took him to an FC Bayern Munich game, he says. “I don't know much about soccer,” he admits. “But the excitement in the stadium was contagious. I’m almost a fan now.” The Bavarian foothills of the Alps need no further convincing – he was immediately drawn to the picturesque towns, the mountains and the wild Isar River. Whenever he can, he heads out into the surrounding countryside. “It is just so beautiful here –with the blue and white sky. The postcards don’t lie. It’s really wonderful,” says Sunil, beaming.
