Julia, Project Manager at EHS & Fire Protection Global
"Together with my colleagues, I work every day to ensure the environmental and occupational safety performance of the DRÄXLMAIER Group and to continuously improve it. We contribute to both environmental and social sustainability."
In which area do you work at DRÄXLMAIER? What do you do in your job?
I work as a project manager in the EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) & Fire Protection Global department and provide support worldwide on all topics relating to occupational health and safety, environmental protection, and fire protection.
How is your role related to sustainability and how does your work contribute to the DRÄXLMAIER Group's sustainability goals?
Together with my colleagues, I work every day to ensure the environmental and occupational health and safety performance of the DRÄXLMAIER Group and to continuously improve it. We contribute to both environmental and social sustainability.
We achieve this, for example, with our global reporting on waste management, which enables us to derive measures and concepts for reducing waste, improving recyclability and preventing waste of resources actively. A binding recycling quota was also adopted for all production sites in 2021, which has to be increased constantly until 2030.
In addition, the sustainability requirements of customers and stakeholders are also increasing, which we take into account with our EHS management system and the optimization of internal standards and processes. We successfully ensure this worldwide by auditing and certifying all sites according to internationally recognized standards.
Last but not least, the reduction of occupational accidents, the design of healthy workplaces and participation in the further development of occupational health management also play a central role in this context, for example.
How does it feel to be part of this transformation?
It is fun to work as an employee at DRÄXLMAIER every day for the success of our sustainable and future-oriented mobility solutions. The increasing importance of our tasks in EHS makes me feel even more that I´m actively contributing to the direction of a more sustainable present and future and also taking personal responsibility.
Where do you see your topic in the future?
Topics such as environmental protection, health and safety at work are increasingly becoming the focus of corporate activity. That's why I'm convinced that the tasks in our team are already very significant and that we can drive this change forward together with added value.
What does sustainability mean to you personally?
Protecting the climate and the environment is one of our greatest social challenges - our behavior and the way we use our resources also play a decisive role in this. Looking to the future and to the next generations should motivate us all to think differently and to live and act in a more sustainable way.
More sustainability won´t limit our quality of life - but what happens if we don't change anything? We are already feeling the climatic consequences, even in Europe. So for me, sustainability is not just a term, but I rather see it as a responsibility for people, the environment and society.
How does sustainability influence you outside of work?
I strive for a sustainable lifestyle in my everyday life: for example, we drive a fully electric car in our private life, whether it's for the weekly grocery shopping or on vacation in Italy. Conscious consumption is also important to me - seasonal and regional shopping is quite simple and my personal contribution to more sustainability.
