Hassan, trainer in Landau an der Isar, Germany has been working at DRÄXLMAIER since 2019

From apprentice to trainer

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship at DRÄXLMAIER?

I was born in Damascus, Syria, and had to flee as a teenager in 2016 because of the war. When I arrived in Lower Bavaria, I attended the 10th grade of a secondary school and then a technical college. In the basic electrical engineering course, I found manufacturing processes and materials exciting, and I enjoyed working with machines.

When I was looking for a good training company, I decided on DRÄXLMAIER after a few interviews. The professional training and the impressive trainers convinced me. In 2019, I started my apprenticeship as a tool mechanic specializing in mold technology at DRÄXLMAIER and successfully completed it.

How did you go from apprentice to trainer?

During and after my apprenticeship, I worked in various specialist areas in the company, which I really enjoyed as I was able to acquire extensive specialist knowledge. I rounded off my specialist skills by completing an in-service training course to become a state-certified mechanical engineering technician, thus laying the foundations for a career as a trainer. This made it clear to me that I could now give something back to the company, partly as a thank you for the opportunity I was given in 2019. I have now been working as a trainer at the Landau an der Isar site since June 2024.

What does your typical working day look like?

My day starts with preparation, including reviewing the training plan and the day's objectives as well as preparing teaching materials and practical exercises. I then start with the theoretical training units in the training workshop and accompany the apprentices on practical tasks and projects. As a trainer, I have to be flexible in order to respond to the individual needs of the apprentices and at the same time fulfill the training plan. A typical working day is a mixture of planning, practical work, teaching and supervision to ensure comprehensive training.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy many aspects of my job, such as seeing the progress of the apprentices, passing on knowledge and working in a network with the specialist departments. I particularly appreciate the creativity, problem-solving and innovations that I can realize with everyone involved.

Do you have any hobbies, passions or talents that you would like to share?

I enjoy sports, cycling and playing soccer in a club. I also like trying out new things and I have a cat.

Which of your qualities are you particularly proud of?

I am proud of what I have achieved in a short time in Germany since I came here eight years ago as a refugee looking for and finding a peaceful and safe place. It shows that we humans have incredible potential and can turn a defeat into a victory. Above all, I am very grateful to DRÄXLMAIER and all my colleagues for their appreciation and support. 50 years of training at DRÄXLMAIER speak for themselves, and I am proud to be a part of this success story.
