World Cup comes to Vilsbiburg
Vilsbiburg (Germany), July 4, 2014 – When it comes to football, the clocks in Vilsbiburg run at a different pace than elsewhere: It is not every four years, but rather every two that the World Cup takes place at the automotive supplier Dräxlmaier. On Saturday, July 12, the tradition-rich tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. at the sports field of the TSV Vilsbiburg with 16 teams from four continents. Anyone with an interest in football, intercultural encounters, family-friendly entertainment and lots of fun is cordially invited.
With the respective games attracting most of the attention, the international Dräxlmaier Group tournament is more than just football. “True, the sporting competition is the center of the action, but at the same time our tournament promotes interaction among our employees and knowledge about their different cultures,” said Karl Wallner, executive director of production and logistics for the Dräxlmaier Group and sponsor of the event.
This is evident in the all-day entertainment program surrounding the tournament. In addition to the traditional Bavarian “Böllerschützen” riflemen from Holzhausen, Germany, the Chinese Dragon Dancers will make their first-ever appearance at the event around 3:30 p.m. during the break between the group phase and the elimination round, promising a varied and entertaining cultural festival.
The teams from the Dräxlmaier plants in China, Mexico and the USA will also celebrate a first: They are taking part in the tournament for the first time, increasing the starting field to 16 teams from 12 countries. More than 300 players and a large number of their fans will travel to Vilsbiburg in mid-July. “This shows the great interest in the event, and illustrates the commitment of the employees to the company,” Wallner said.
The football tournament will be organized in the usual way. The preliminary round will be played in four groups, each with four teams. The top-two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals; in the ensuing elimination round, the knock-out system will apply, in which the winner of each game advances to the next stage. A playoff game for third place will precede the championship game, which will take place at 5:30 p.m.
The sixth international Dräxlmaier Group football tournament will kick off at 9 a.m., when the defending champions from Satu Mare, Romania, will play Team Serbia.
Exciting football, good entertainment and enthusiastic spectators: The Dräxlmaier Group international football tournament will be a sports highlight again this year. A wide range of refreshments will also be available. Along with co-workers, family members, friends and acquaintances, everyone interested in football is cordially invited. Admission is free.
