New Dräxlmaier production network in Macedonia honored with first place award

25. April 2013 Vilsbiburg, April 25, 2013. – The Dräxlmaier Group has received a first place award from fDi Magazine for construction of a new production network in Kavadarci, Macedonia. In this study the trade journal, which belongs to The Financial Times Ltd., researched more than 16,000 foreign direct investments throughout the world. Dräxlmaier made it into the final round, and was successful against 24 competitors in the category “Best production facilities 2012.”

The Dräxlmaier Group invested tens of millions of Euro in the Kavadarci site, which opened in the summer of 2012, thereby creating up to 4000 new jobs in Macedonia over the next few years. “We are very proud to receive first place, which especially recognizes the investment and strong commitment of the Dräxlmaier Group in our country,” said plant manager Georgi Trenkoski from DMM Dräxlmaier Manufacturing Macedonia DOOEL in Kavadarci concerning the award from fDi Magazine.

The award was not granted based solely on the amount invested and the number of jobs created, however. An equally large role was played by criteria such as the influence of the company on the economic development of a country, as well as the process of site selection and related efforts on a national as well as global level.

As “Projects of the year 2012,” the jurors of fDi Magazine also commended companies throughout the world, not only from the automotive sector but also from such diverse industries as air travel and the energy sector, for their exemplary practices. The study also considered not only investments in production facilities, but also the setup of research and development centers as well as sales offices.

In Kavadarci the Dräxlmaier Group produces wiring harness systems with in-sequence delivery, for a German premium automobile manufacturer. The expansion of the new fully integrated production plant to more than 52,000 square meters is to be completed in the summer of 2014. Building the plant site in Kavadarci is Dräxlmaier’s first investment in Macedonia, and is an important part of their international growth strategy, which is oriented toward well-known automotive manufacturers in the premium segment.
