DRÄXLMAIER welcomes German president

28. April 2015 Joachim Gauck visits company's electrical component facility in Siliana.

Siliana / Vilsbiburg, April 28, 2015. – As part of an official visit to the Republic of Tunisia on Tuesday, German Federal President Joachim Gauck inspected the DRÄXLMAIER facility in Siliana. Commenting on the visit, Barbara Bergmeier, DRÄXLMAIER Group's Head of Production and Logistics said, "The visit represents a great honor for us and further underlines the role we play in helping Tunisia move its economy forward".

The German automotive supplier built its first production facility on foreign soil in Sousse in 1974 and has remained a strong partner in Tunisia for over forty years. DRÄXLMAIER Regional Manager for Africa Dr. Adel Ben-Khaled speaking at the Siliana facility added, "DRÄXLMAIER employs around 8.000 staff here and is the second largest employer in the Tunisian economy's private sector."

Fascinating insight into the production of wiring systems
During the course of a factory visit, the delegation was given an insight into the production of modern wiring systems that provide vehicles with their energy and data requirements. Federal President Gauck and his guests were able to witness at first hand the production of customer-specific wiring harnesses. The Siliana facility was founded in 2008 as part of the "Zone Industrielle Route de Gaafour". DRÄXLMAIER manufactures wiring harnesses at the site for a premium segment vehicle manufacturer.

    "Tunisian Education Package"
Within the framework of the "Tunisian Education Package", DRÄXLMAIER promotes the German approach to the training of specialist personnel. In 2012, along with the Education Workshop of Bavarian Commerce & Industry, the Tunisian Ministry of Education and the "Agence Tunisienne de la Formation Professionnelle" (the governing body regulating all Tunisian vocational colleges), the German automotive supplier played a highly pro-active role in introducing the dual training system. With considerable success: The first mechatronics engineers started their training course at DRÄXLMAIER's Tunisian facility in October 2013. A year later, a new group of students began their apprenticeship in "process engineering in plastic and rubber technology". DRÄXLMAIER Tunisia has 30 students currently completing their training.
