As an automotive supplier, it is part of our identity to make a contribution to the sustainable development of the industry. As an innovation leader, we are able to make a decisive contribution – for example, in the area of lightweight construction. With our weight-optimized components, we support our customers in achieving statutory CO2 targets and increasing the range of electrical automobiles.
Since the 1990s, we have been working on the use of natural fibers in our center consoles and door panels. In this way, we are able to save weight compared to the use of plastic components, and decrease the use of petroleum-based raw materials.
In accordance with our premium brand, there is no way that we disregarded aesthetics in our consideration of innovations in sustainability. This impressed our customers – for example, the BMW Group. Together with the Bavarian automobile manufacturer, DRÄXLMAIER made natural fibers visible in the interior of a vehicle for the first time in the history of the automobile in the form of the door panel for the BMW i3. The challenges of this: to unite sustainability with the quality requirements of a premium manufacturer. In addition to lightweight construction, aesthetics, and haptic properties, health compatibility and profitability also were taken into consideration.
