With around 150 granted patents per year, the DRÄXLMAIER Group is one of the 100 most active companies in the German Patent and Trade Mark Office. Our products can be found in more than 100 premium models. The company’s core competences include electrical and electronic systems, interior Systems and battery systems.
The first order for DRÄXLMAIER: 50,000 wiring harnesses for the legendary Goggomobil, which was installed with 88 cables that supplied the functions in the car, like the indicator or the starter, with power.
Modern luxury sedans, like the Mercedes S-Class, contain around 2,200 cables. One cable can be combined into 1031 variants – that is a number with 31 zeros. As the inventor of the customer-specific wiring harness, DRÄXLMAIER is able to master this complexity to perfection.
With its instrument panels, center consoles, door panels and ambient lighting, the DRÄXLMAIER Group lends the passenger compartments of premium vehicles a unique character. The company is the market leader in leather-covered instrument panels.
With the development of its interior parts, DRÄXLMAIER has proven that functionality, sustainability and design go hand in hand. DRÄXLMAIER started making the lightest door paneling made of natural fibers 20 years ago. The company has continued developing this lightweight construction strategy and has now developed door paneling for the BMW i3 with visible – and tangible – natural fibers.
Lighting design will become more and more important in car interiors: If a special atmosphere is created today by pure ambient lighting, light will also enhance communication between car and driver in the future. Intelligent lighting methods made by DRÄXLMAIER can accurately display vehicle functions and warnings that, can ensure security for everybody on the roads.
Autonomous, connected and electrical. The mobility of the future will look quite different to that of today. The DRÄXLMAIER Group realized this at an early stage and set up the business areas of electronic systems and battery storage systems. Experts developed the first prototypes for battery systems in a start-up. This was followed by numerous concept orders for high-voltage batteries in premium, brand plug-in hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles.
DRÄXLMAIER is currently setting up highly automated production for batteries in Sachsenheim near Stuttgart. At that site, DRÄXLMAIER will produce the entire battery system for an electric sportscar – the world’s first series car that uses high-performance 800 volt technology.
